Denver Acupuncture Helps Upper Back Pain and Neck Pain

Having spent over 10 years in western medicine I know how much pain your back, neck and shoulders can be in by the end of the day. Leaning over patients in a dental chair for instance leaves your neck and upper back in pain and spasms.

When I was working as a business coach and consultant for medical practices one of the biggest problems for the doctors or staff was ergonomics. Once we got this right is was about keeping them healthy and able to do their jobs. That’s where acupuncture in my Littleton office comes in! Where ever you are if you work at a desk, lean over patients, or sit at a computer all day your upper back pain, neck pain, and shoulder aches don’t have to end your career early. I’d like to share one patient’s experience with acupuncture treatment and I hope it inspires you to do pro-active care to stay healthy!

Hi Jessy!

One of the main reasons people get neck pain is poor posture. It’s simple next time you walk by a mirror or window where you can view your reflection look at how you are standing, walking, or sitting. Is your head forward? Do you have your shoulders rounded forward? If the answer is yes to either of these then you want to work on posture! Acupuncture treatment can be very effective for neck pain as well.

Also look at your work or social life and is there a reason you may be standing or sitting incorrectly – such as typing all day! That will cause neck pain fast! Neck pain exercises and looking at your nutrition as we do here in Denver Colorado acupuncture health care visits is a good place to start. You could be lacking a vitamin or mineral that is causing tight neck muscles with pain.

Finally home remedies for neck pain and neck spasms. Warm heat rather than ice can be helpful. Buy a grain filled neck wrap and use it daily. Do an exercise of lifting your shoulders to your ears and then lowering them reaching for the ground as you sit or stand.

Another good exercise is to lay on a bed facing the ceiling and let your head fall off the side of the bed giving you a good stretch.

Look for future posts about neck pain, Littleton acupuncture in Colorado and Denver Nutrition!

Welcome to the blog Back Here!

Yes acupuncture treatment is very effective for neck pain especially when the cause is stress or muscle strain. Cervical spine pain is common and in our Denver Colorado acupuncture office it is the number one reason we see for migraine headaches.

The real problem though is often hormones whether you are a women or man. Nutritional blood work analysis can help us determine if your neck pain and other health problems are due to such things as adrenal stress, or thyroid. Even insulin resistance can be a factor in neck pain or other pain like hip joint pain or back pain.

Keep up with your acupuncture treatments as they will help you!

Acupucture definetely is a good way to cure back pains. But look into the mattress you are sleeping on as well. Choosing a memory foam mattress can help you reduce some pains as well.

Dr DebraSeptember 20th, 2009 at 11:54 pm

Absolutely! We personally sleep on the best firm memory form mattress made. For those living in Colorado you really want to look at the Denver Mattress Company. We started out with a Doctor’s Choice Mattress a few years ago and then recently upgraded to the top of the line in memory foam. Denver acupuncture and Accent On Health Wellness acupuncturist Debra Arko Novotny recommends memory foam beds to all her patients whether they have mirgraines or other problems including insomnia for acupuncture treatments.

Some things to consider. Foam mattresses are hotter and hold body heat so you will want to use a cooling mattress pad. Lighter thread count sheets, and a lighter comforter.

The worst bed you can go for is either a air bed also known as a number bed. It’s really just sleeping on a large air mattress which is never good for your back pain, migraines or neck pain. And avoid water beds for the same reason. If you have pain, Denver Acupuncture can help reset your muscles and get your body back in balance so that your new mattress doesn’t seem to be part of the problem. That’s the biggest factor if you don’t correct your body no mattress has a chance at giving you a good night’s rest.

It’s unfortunate that you didn’t try painless acupuncture treatment like at Denver Acupuncture and Accent On Health Wellness Center. So types of acupuncture do hurt but not all forms so don’t give up!

Acupuncture for stress is becoming more popular because it really works to help you relax even if you suffer from anxiety or insomnia with stress. There is more to just acupuncture though, we use nutritional blood work and a metabolic assessment to discover what nutritional deficenicies you may have and correct those with Chinese herbs, homeopathy, and yes the right nutritional supplements. “Taking a multivitamin, is like throwing oil on fire” If you don’t need something in the vitamin mix it can cause more problems that it helps.”

Acupuncture for stress relief is wonderful and often is used alone at Denver Acupuncture says, Debra Arko Novotny. Clients desiring more complete Wellness care can look into our other alternative medicine care if they desire.

Chinese herbs are very helpful on my allergic rhinitis

Dr DebraJuly 17th, 2010 at 9:49 pm

Yes Chinese Herbs can really help and we include those in treatment at Denver Acupuncture

Dr DebraJuly 17th, 2010 at 9:50 pm

Denver Acupuncture recommends that you stretch before going to work and after. It is important to try to also do the right kind of stretching and if possible to do this at least every two- three hours while at work.

Dr DebraJuly 17th, 2010 at 9:52 pm

Chinese Herbs working has nothing to do with ‘time tested’. They work because medicinal quality herbs are different than food herbs in that they have more of the compounds in them that provide natural health benefits. Take Feverfew. It is a natural aspirin.

Dr DebraJuly 17th, 2010 at 9:55 pm

Are you stretching and taking breaks each hour? Denver Acupuncture recommends that you sit at the computer for 50 minutes then break for 10 minutes where you do specific stretches for your back, abdomen, and thighs. All these muscles play a part in back pain. If you have upper back or neck pain you will want to target your moves to these areas.

Caleb GreenAugust 30th, 2010 at 1:49 pm

Chinese herbs can actually treat a lot of illness and have fewer side-effects too.
